North Somerset Council’s GenAI Journey with QuickAction & Agilisys

Updated: Mar 25

North Somerset Council has achieved a 90% reduction in survey analysis time and immediate productivity boosts, embracing Generative AI through our QuickAction platform and working with Agilisys. Explore the key highlights of how GenAI is transforming the public sector.

The Challenge

Like many local authorities, North Somerset Council faced the challenge of scaling high-quality services under tight resource and budget constraints. After years of delivering savings and performance improvements, they needed a solution that could enhance process speed and effectiveness while also supporting new ways of working.

QuickAction was chosen because of its organisation-specific functionality and ability to generate standardised outputs through repeatable, one-click actions. It supports internal reference datasets for consistent results across users and significantly reduces the risk of AI "hallucinations". This consistency enables rapid knowledge sharing and helps embed GenAI innovation across teams.

The Solution

The impact of QuickAction was immediate. The council achieved an estimated 90% reduction in time spent on survey analysis, freeing up both staff time and financial resources. Tasks that previously took hours or days are now completed in minutes—with improved consistency and quality.

QuickAction was rolled out to 40 users in a single afternoon for a four-week trial. During this period, the Agilisys Transform team partnered with key service areas to identify and develop over 20 high-value use cases. These included transforming admin-heavy tasks in children’s social care, planning, business support, legal, and web services.

Following the successful trial, North Somerset moved into a pilot phase, scaling QuickAction across the organisation. In just a few months, over 120 users were onboarded, with Agilisys continuing to support the identification and development of further use cases.

The Impact

The council is actively quantifying further efficiencies and cost savings, with tangible benefits already emerging. More teams are being onboarded, and QuickAction is being woven into daily workflows.

Longer-term innovation projects are also underway, addressing complex processes like the council’s front door experience and Freedom of Information (FOI) requests.

By focusing on quick wins and longer-term opportunities, North Somerset has created a framework for scaling Generative AI responsibly and effectively. A key factor in the project’s success has been the strong practitioner-led co-development approach between Agilisys Transform and council teams.

“Our partnership with Agilisys has seen the council make significant progress in realising the benefits of Generative AI technology across multiple services. QuickAction is changing the way we work—improving productivity while unlocking broader organisational benefits.” Jo Walker, Chief Executive, North Somerset Council

Looking Ahead

Andrew Mindenhall, CEO of Agilisys, shares:

“North Somerset has been a brilliant innovation partner, showing how to trial, pilot, and adopt new technology in a way that balances safety and innovation. Their commitment to practitioner-led co-development highlights the vast opportunities for local authorities to reimagine service delivery using Generative AI.”

North Somerset’s journey demonstrates how public sector organisations can leverage cutting-edge technology to redefine service quality and efficiency. The continued success of QuickAction reflects the growing demand for secure, user-friendly AI tools that support standardised output, knowledge sharing, and real-world impact.
